Potty Flirtation

Cole is in an on again, off again relationship with the Potty. Not a lot of commitment, but some definite interest. Pee pee gets 1 m&m, poo poo gets 2, telling about a poo poo in the diaper gets 1 too.

Zoo with friends

C&C and I went to the zoo today with Laura & Sophie. We saw the penguins, rode the carousel, and ran into friends at the grizzly exhibit ( Mel, Daniel, & Gabriel and Kelly, Ryder & Leyla ). Then we played on the meerkat hill with Ryder until it wad time for lunch. It was cold with moments of warm sun.

Post nap we all walked to 56th St Market for candy and dad got home early. Yakisoba take-out dinner and the day is a wrap. Let's hope some of us get sleep tonight. Last night Cora and I wrestled on the couch all night and there wasn't much sleeping.

Spring Training in Arizona

We had a wonderful vacation in Phoenix with grandma Mary and the Mariners this spring. We spent a week at grandma's house and went to several games. Mom & Cora both got heat rash, so we spent a lot of time hiding from the heat of the day in air conditioning. Cole & mom went "gleaning" with grandma's church group (picking fruit trees for the food bank) and Cole fell in a cactus while posing for a picture - ouch! He was a brave boy and once we got some Icthammol ointment he was 100% better.
Grandma also had a great set up for us on the backyard patio - a borrowed large umbrella for shade, a small plastic pool, a big wheel toy for Cole to drive around and many toys to keep the kiddos occupied. We took nightly baths to everyone's delight - gotta remove all that sunscreen. Karen Schoeben drove up to visit us and we met the Trowbridge family at a ballgame. We bbq'd every meal and soaked up much needed sunshine.

Trip to Phoenix

We all got up early today to pack for our trip to Phoenix. Cora got to ride in a big girl carseat like Cole for the first time ever. Checking in was super smooth and before we knew it we were on the plane. Cora was restless and we wrestled her for most of the trip. She made lots of friends on the plane and was waving to everyone.
Once we disembarked, we rented a car and set out for grandmas. Unfortunately, the GPS navigation sent us on a crazy route that took hours. None of us had eaten lunch so we were starving when we finally got to grandma Mary's at 5. She had sloppy joes ready for us and we settled in thankfully. She also made us 2 pies - lemon & strawberry. Yum!!!

Rhubarb Dessert & Fort

Cole divided his time between helping me make this yummy rhubarb dessert & playing with Cora in their kitchen table fort. Fun!

Tooth Fairy

As a result of Cole's dental traumas this week we explained all about the tooth fairy. In our version she comes the second night after the loss (we needed shopping time b/c the tooth loss was a shock to us all) and exchanges presents for the tooth. Cole was super excited. We put the tooth to bed by the front door for logistical reasons. Cole awoke and ran out to find an I spy puzzle/game and a Thomas train named Edward. I guess all is well that ends well.

Clear n crisp

Beautiful but chilly in Seattle today, so the kids and I headed inside to the children's museum. We painted pretty pictures, rolled and cut clay, drove a car, sailed a ship, built with wooden blocks & gears, shopped briefly, and hung out in the "ball" room. It was Cora's first time enjoying the museum on the ground (crawling) and it sure wore her out. We all ate a nice snack of applesauce and pbnj too - I think it was Cora's first sandwich.
Once home Cora slept and Cole and I ate and baked banana bread. We had an interesting talk about how girls grow to be women and boys grow to be men. Than Cole went through everyone he knew, categorizing them based on our discussion.

Sunday in the park

We met the Butchers at Meridian to introduce Cameron to Tucker, their new puppy. The dogs hit it off and Cora got a nice ride on daddy's shoulders.

Dental Trauma - part 2

Friday night Cole gently bumped his face on the black dining table and screamed in pain, his tooth (yes, the same one that was pushed up completely beyond the gumline on Tuesday night) popped out. It was hanging by a shred of flesh and blood was again pouring out. I was more calm this time, so much so that B did not realize what had happened for a while. We grabbed the tooth, calmed Cole down and called Dr. Hull again. He was willing to meet at the office, but said if the tooth is out (and if it looks like it came out roots n all) there isn't much to do. We decided to call again if it kept bleeding. Dr Hull called early Saturday morning to check on Cole again, and we all decided to follow up with an appointment next week. Poor Cole was all swollen and shaken up again, but behaved very bravely. Poor baby! This pic is from Saturday night and shows the hole that will exist in Cole's smile until adult teeth eventually fill in.

Bbq daddy

The other morning when B went to make breakfast, Cole asked "daddy are you making pancakes?" B said that he was, and Cole followed up with "are you going to bbq them?" I guess he knows daddy's specialty!

Haircut for Phoenix

Cole's fab stylist, Elizabeth, have him a fresh cut for our vacation while dad shopped for the tooth fairy, mom consigned, and whole family stocked up on sunscreen at Pharmica. In the rocket chair Cole talked all about our upcoming plane trip.

Sunny Saturday

Walk to the playground and library on a cold but brilliant day. Got some great books and much needed vitamin D.

Dental Trauma, part 1

Tonight Cole hit his mouth on his metal Tonka truck and was bleeding profusely. We could tell at least one tooth was missing, but couldn't find it amid all the blood. I freaked, but B was cool and reassuring, holding Cole. We called Coles dentist, Dr. Hull, who reopened his office for us to come in. An exam and an x-ray determined that the tooth was just pushed up in to the gum line. Soft foods for a week, topical antibiotics, and swelling beyond recognition. Heart breaking for both of us, Cole has been more resilient than us.

Snack time

Cole and Cora both sat at the table and enjoyed cheerios, and Cole ate an orange too.

I'm a big girl

Cora would only drink her bottle standing up this morning.
